Scrolling through old videos for our daughter’s 13th birthday, I stumbled upon one from her 6th birthday. As the 15-second clip started, I smiled at her pure joy – surrounded by family singing her happy birthday. By the end, I wept. A messy cry of joy and loss. 

 

“Be where you are; otherwise, you will miss your life.” – Buddha

 

When we live in the past or worry about the future, we miss the precious present – where joy lives. 

 

Life often traps us in busyness. We feel overwhelmed with too much to do, disappointed with unmet expectations, and frustrated when our plan for the day falls to pieces.  

 

We can’t stop time, but we can, at any given time, choose to be fully present.

 

Mindfulness is focusing your awareness on the present moment. It’s a skill learned through practice and well worth your time. 

 

The life-changing benefit of mindfulness is experiencing more positive feelings throughout the day: more joy, more love, more gratitude, more serenity, more hope.

 

What if we don’t practice mindfulness? Our mind lingers in discomfort, fear, hurt, sadness, anger, frustration, disappointment, and overwhelm.
